"We happened to drive past here and didn't know it existed.
There are two entrances.
At the main entrance is a small white house with, among other things, a neat restroom and a screen with an overview of the grounds where you can also print a map.
Once inside, the space and enormous rows of memorial stones are overwhelming.
You could wander around here for a long time and still not have seen or read everything.
The most striking feature were the stones with the Unknown Dutchman.
Reason enough to return, which we did.
Parking is available right in front of the entrance, with plenty of space."

"Loenen National Cemetery is a Dutch cemetery of honor. Nearly 4,000 war victims are buried here. The cemetery contains not only soldiers, but also many resistance fighters, political prisoners, those who left for England, and victims of forced labor in Germany.
In preparation for the commemoration on May 4th, I visited the cemetery: impressive!"

"The silence, and yet the pain!
What a grim yet loving place 🌹
So that we never forget!"
