"A lookout at about 3km walk from the highway ring of Zandvoort. From this lookout European Bison called Wisent could be seen if they are near the waterhole."

"It is a very good place with fantastic nature. You can take a walk on paths into the forest with your family on weekends 👍🏻 However, I came here to take bison photos, I followed the bison routes, I couldn’t see any. There were plenty places surrounded with electricity wires and I assume the animals are behind those wires. It is forbidden to cross those wires so that I didn’t see any animal. I recommend bringing your bike because it is a big park here"

"We followed the sign to arrive viewing point of Wisent. In the beginning, you will need to open the gate and go to viewing point. There is introducing book of Wisent but we haven’t seen any animals but it’s quite and peaceful place to enjoy."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
Understanding the European Bison (Wisent)
Spotting the Wisent requires patience and a bit of luck. The designated bison routes are designed to lead you to areas where they are known to frequent, especially near waterholes. However, they can roam across vast distances within the reserve. It's crucial to respect their space and avoid any actions that might disturb them. Bringing binoculars is highly recommended, as the bison can sometimes be seen grazing at a distance.
Remember that parts of the park may be surrounded by electricity wires to manage the bison's grazing areas. It is strictly forbidden to cross these wires. While this might mean you can't always get as close as you'd like, it's essential for both your safety and the well-being of the animals. The experience is about appreciating nature from a respectful distance.

For those who enjoy walking and hiking, the paths are generally well-maintained, though some can be sandy, typical of coastal dune environments. The distance from Zandvoort's highway ring to the Wisent lookout is about 3km, so comfortable footwear is a must. Many visitors suggest bringing a bike to cover this distance and explore more of the park's extensive network of trails.
The natural beauty of Kraansvlak is a highlight for many. Even if the bison are elusive, the serene environment, the sounds of nature, and the picturesque scenery make the visit worthwhile. It's a place to connect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures of being outdoors.
