My partner and I are driving up the south island's east coast in a few weeks. We are starting in Dunedin, ending in Picton, and we are trying to decide which east coast township to stay. We don't really like Christchurch, and we've already stayed in Kaikoura. Is there a city…

Can you tell me which road these photos were taken on (Akaroa)
Hey there, I'm trying to figure out which route I took going into Akaroa from Christ Church years ago. As far as I can tell there are two main roads that I could have taken. I started off on State Highway 75 and could have followed that all the way up to Akaroa. Or I could have…

Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the spectacular, panoramic views from the summit and along the Pikes Peak Highway. The scenic drive itself is a major highlight, with many appreciating the dramatic switchbacks and changing landscapes. However, some find the gravel road challenging, especially when wet, and the final walk to viewpoints can be steep and require good fitness.
"Don't be put off by the 4wd only signs. Narrow, gravel road but drive carefully and you will be fine, just wouldn't go if it's wet. There's a bit of a short walk down and back up a hill. All worth the beautiful scenery. Spotted a seal and the dolphins in the distance."

"sometimes goggle map will bring you use Misty Peaks Reserve that way to the wrong way, zoom in yourself and follow the only road for it.
maybe you will meet farm owner block the road with gate but you can just open the first gate and drive the car in, close the first gate and open second gate (avoid sheep escape from the gate)"

"A beautiful day and, as expected, very windy. The road is recommended for 4WD vehicles and I would advise that is correct if it were raining or had been raining as it is a gravel road. You can drive to the lighthouse site but there is a walking track for those that are more nimble and fitter than myself. I was unable to get pictures but through binoculars I watched seal lions swimming and playing in rock pools over on the rocks near the hole in the jutting land."
