Te Henga/Bethells Beach vs. Whatipu Beach?

I've been to Piha and Karekare and would like to explore another West Auckland beach. Would you recommend Te Henga/Bethells or Whatipu, and why? Seems they are both more or less remote and wild, but I reckon that folks who have visited have reasons for picking a favorite.

Whatipu Beach looking south. I went hunting a while ago for the remains of the Piha Tramway (originally a private line then to govt). Saw some remains but the landscapes made up for any shortcomings.

Whatipu Beach is an amazing place. I went there a few weeks ago and walked from Whatipu to Karekare and back with a small group, it was a really great day :-)

🚗 Gravel Road Ahead

The drive is scenic but involves a long, narrow gravel road. Drive cautiously. Reddit

I love Whatipu but is it really that remote? It's like an hour out of Auckland central.
