What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Luxmore Cave's accessibility and unique formations, calling it a 'very cool' and 'awesome' experience just a short walk from Luxmore Hut. The cave's depth and the chance to see the 'reaper' arachnid are highlights. However, many stress the absolute necessity of bringing multiple, reliable light sources and waterproof footwear due to the dark, damp, and slippery conditions.
"Very cool cave super close to the Luxmore Hut, only a 10-minute walk or so! Definitely brink a headlamp or flashlight as it gets dark quickly. Have sturdy, waterproof hiking shoes as there's some water on the rocks. And be careful, both for yourself and the cave as cave ecosystems are extremely fragile."

"AWESOME CAVES!
Inside that cave you'll find A spider (which is not a spider at all but a Reaper) that lives in the Luxmore and Iris Burn caves.
Reapers are characterized by very long legs. Unlike arachnids, the cephalothorax and abdomen are fused, and the abdominal joints are visible. They do not have venom glands and spinnerets. The front mouthparts resemble pincers, and they have two eyes. The name probably comes from the convulsive movements of the reapers' legs when they fall off the body.
The Kepler spider is a relative of the spider that you all know from home as Daddy Longlegs."
