"Many tracks to choose from. Google map brought me to the start at the housing area entrance. To go to the reservoir from here requires to cross a stream laid with crossing rocks that could be slippery. When returning to the carpark, we went a larger loop down towards the upper Leith entrance, passing by NZMCA , Woodhaugh garden track entrance and climbed back up to walk on the main street in the neighbourhood. There are many choices of tracks depending on your fitness level."

One of the oldest artificial lakes in the country, and the oldest water supply reservoir still in active use in the country, it was created in the 1860s to provide water for the city of Dunedin, at that time in the middle of rapid expansion due to the Otago gold rush.
