While Lerstadvatnet Trail offers a peaceful escape, some visitors note hearing highway traffic. For the purest nature experience, aim for early mornings or late afternoons when traffic noise is less prominent and bird activity is high. Reddit

Trail Realities vs. Expectations

The circular walk doesn't always hug the water's edge as some might expect, with sections passing houses and schools. For more consistent water views, consider combining this with the Aksla walk from Alesund. Reddit

Reviews Summary

Lerstadvatnet Trail is appreciated as a peaceful nature reserve with good birdwatching opportunities and pleasant mossy banks. However, some visitors find the circular walk doesn't always hug the water and can be accompanied by highway noise. The rocky sections on the south side require appropriate footwear.

"One star because it's a nature reserve, which is naturally good for birds and insects. However, the circular walk disappointed me because you don't walk along the water anywhere, and you hear the traffic from the highway the entire way. The information board wrongly gives the impression that the path is right next to the water. The paths are good walking trails, but they pass houses, schools, playgrounds, and a parking lot. You can see the water in the distance through 15-meter-deep forest. At one point, there's a high viewpoint over the water: I saw many herons. I enjoyed the walk from Alesund and back via the Aksla to this spot more than this circular walk through the nature reserve."

"Lerstadvatnet – an oasis of peace for those weary of asphalt

This is a place where the rustling of trees plays a symphony with the lapping of waves, and the scent of moss and damp wood fills your lungs like the purest mountain breeze. Perfect for a moment of respite on a long drive – the silence is broken only by the cries of seagulls and the rustling of leaves. The banks are covered with soft moss like a natural carpet, and the water shimmers with shades of green and blue. A pearl hidden in the Norwegian forest, where time slows down and the stress of everyday life melts into the lake's depths. Here, with a cup of yerba mate in hand, you will find true peace. ★★★★★"

It's ideal for a moment of respite, where the silence is broken only by natural sounds. The banks are covered in soft moss, and the water shimmers with various shades. Reddit

However, some visitors have noted that the circular walk doesn't always provide direct access to the water's edge, with parts of the path passing by houses, schools, and a parking lot. The highway traffic can also be audible, which might detract from the 'oasis of peace' for some. Despite this, the trail is described as having good walking paths, and there's a high viewpoint offering a glimpse of the water and a chance to see herons. Reddit

For those seeking a more immersive nature experience, combining the Lerstadvatnet walk with the Aksla trail from Alesund is suggested as a more rewarding option by some reviewers. Navigating the Trails and Terrain

The Lerstadvatnet Trail offers a mix of surfaces, primarily described as gravel and asphalt paths around the lake. This makes for generally easy walking, suitable for a casual stroll or even cycling. Reddit

However, a key detail to note is that the south side of the trail features large rocks. Visitors are advised to wear sturdy footwear with good grip to navigate these sections safely. While the overall trail is considered pretty flat, these rocky parts require a bit more attention. Reddit

Despite some sections not being directly adjacent to the water, the trail does offer distant views of the lake through the forest. The presence of point-out posts suggests the path is marked, aiding navigation for visitors. Reddit
