What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lahore Zoo has been significantly improved by recent renovations, offering a cleaner, greener, and more organized experience with enhanced animal enclosures. Visitors appreciate the improved facilities and the variety of animals. However, some concerns remain regarding animal space and climate control, and additional fees for popular exhibits can add up.
"Lahore Zoo has been the center of attention since forever... I recently visited Lahore Zoo after its renovation, and I must say it looks so much better now. The place is cleaner, greener, and more organized than before. There are proper sitting areas, signboards, and the cages have been improved.
Families with kids will enjoy the new look, as it feels more comfortable and safe for a day out. However, I still can't vouch for animals living there because
1. The area is not enough for the wild creatures
2. There are no proper air conditioning units for animals like lions, bears and even parrots.
3. Despite the entrance ticket many of the public cannot afford tickets to different animal enclosures such as Snake House, Fish Aquarium, The 3D Dinosaur thing etc
Parking is available but can get crowded on weekends, so going early is a good idea.
Overall, the renovation has really improved the experience. It’s a nice place to spend time with family, especially children, and to see animals in a cleaner environment. Definitely worth visiting again!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge
Lahore Zoo vs. Lahore Safari Zoo
Lahore Safari Zoo, situated on Raiwind Road, offers a different experience, often described as a safari park. Visitors can expect to see animals in larger, more open enclosures, sometimes from within a vehicle. This park is newer and focuses on providing a more immersive wildlife experience. Both offer unique perspectives on wildlife, with Lahore Zoo being more accessible within the city and the Safari Zoo providing a more expansive, drive-through adventure.
When planning your visit, be sure to confirm which location you intend to visit, as their locations, offerings, and ticket structures can differ significantly.
The Impact of Renovations
However, these renovations have also brought about some considerations. Some visitors feel that the increased space for pathways might have reduced the area available for certain animals, and concerns have been raised about the adequacy of climate control in some enclosures, particularly for animals like lions and bears. Additionally, while general entry is affordable, many of the newly improved or existing exhibits, such as the aquarium and snake house, now have separate ticket prices, which can increase the overall cost of a visit.
Despite these points, the overall sentiment is that the renovations have made Lahore Zoo a more comfortable and enjoyable place for families and children to spend a day out, offering a cleaner environment to observe a variety of animals.
Animal Welfare Concerns
Specific concerns have been raised about the lack of proper air conditioning units for animals like lions, bears, and even parrots, which can be crucial for their comfort and health, especially in Lahore's climate. While the zoo aims to house a diverse collection of species, ensuring their well-being within the urban environment remains a critical aspect that visitors and management alike consider.
It's worth noting that the zoo is managed by the Forest, Wildlife & Fisheries Department, Punjab, which is responsible for animal welfare. Visitors are encouraged to observe the animals and their habitats and report any concerns to the zoo authorities.
