Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Regional Historical Museum Casa del Inca Garcilaso to be an enriching experience, particularly appreciating the diverse collection spanning pre-Inca to colonial periods and the beautiful colonial mansion setting. While some note that exhibit descriptions could be more detailed, its inclusion in the tourist ticket makes it a highly recommended and worthwhile visit for understanding Cusco's history.
"A very enriching visit to the Cusco Regional Historical Museum.
The museum is located in a beautiful colonial mansion that belonged to Garcilaso de la Vega. The layout of the rooms takes you through the history of Cusco from pre-Inca times to the colonial era. I really liked the archaeological artifacts, the colonial paintings, and the clear explanation of each stage.
The atmosphere is peaceful, ideal for a leisurely stroll. Plus, it’s included in the tourist ticket, so it’s a must-see if you’re exploring the historic center. Recommended if you’re interested in Peruvian history and culture!n"

"Likely one of the better museums in Cusco, covering the history of the city, the Incas, and the colonial period. Ticket is included in the Bileto Turistico. There are English translations for most exhibits and displays (which is not generally the case in Cusco...), although the translation is not perfect and the text is faded in some places. We spent 30 minutes walking through the museum, but definitely worth a full hour if you're interested."

"The museum gives a great overview of local history without getting too detailed while also adding nuance. Should the histories rely on Spanish or Peruvian accounts? Where do the accounts differ? And how do local, national, and international politics all influence the history as artefacts are found, gifted, lost and reclaimed-- including the iconic gold sun crest that Cusco uses in its modern street signs. The museum raises these great questions alongside artefacts and accounts of the past-- all of which prompt questions about Cusco's future."
