Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the breathtaking, expansive views of the Colca Canyon and surrounding mountains, with many highlighting the thrill of spotting condors. However, the viewpoint is noted for its lack of maintenance and basic facilities, requiring visitors to be well-prepared.

"Tapay Viewpoint
Department: Arequipa, Province: Caylloma, District: CABANACONDE
Category: 1. NATURAL SITES
Type: Scenic Areas
Subtype: Natural Viewpoints
Description:
The Tapay Viewpoint is a natural observation point located on the left bank of the Colca River, at an altitude of approximately 3,600 meters above sea level. From this location, you can appreciate the depths of the Colca Canyon, as well as the Chila Mountain Range and the archaeological sites of Kakatapuy, Otupara, and Kosñirhua.
You can also see the town of Tapay and its annexes or smaller towns: San Juan de Chucho, Cosñirhua, and Malata, with their main rural roads. It is also ideal for admiring the flight of the condor (Vultur griphus), the kestrel (Falco sparverius), and the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus). The flora is scarce and consists of ichu and other plants native to the highlands."

"Tapay is the last district you reach by road; before that, you pass through Cabanaconde, Paclla, Belén, Malata, Qosñirhua, and finally Tapay.
The viewpoint itself is neglected, lacking maintenance and tourist information, but the scenery is very beautiful. On one side, you see the Colca Canyon, and on the other, the surrounding mountains."
