🔥🌿 Today we reached one of the most mind-blowing spots inside Sierra del Divisor National Park: the river that actually boils. Steam rising, bubbling water, and a mineral-colored riverbed—temperatures here get so high you can’t swim… but you CAN boil eggs. This volcanic energy also feeds traditional medicinal steam therapies used by locals. A surreal, powerful Amazonian experience you must see to ...

Today I’m living one of the most amazing moments inside Sierra del Divisor National Park. After hours watching macaws at the clay lick, we reached the Hot Springs Union, where a cold river meets another that is almost boiling. 🌡️🔥 I’m in the water testing every temperature: cold, warm, and even a zone so hot it burns, so you really need to be careful where you step. But the experience is unreal: r...

Reviews Summary

Visitors describe Sierra del Divisor as an incredibly beautiful and breathtaking place, offering an unforgettable experience of being close to nature. The unique natural wonders and spectacular landscapes are major highlights. However, the lack of information and preparation required can be challenging, with many emphasizing the need for sturdy footwear, insect protection, and bringing all necessary supplies.

"Incredibly beautiful... But you must be prepared - we had no information prior of what to expect (we could not find any). We entered through Contamana. Lots of insects, ants. Also snakes. Be ready to cross small rivers by foot many times - wear proper shoes! Rain boots are probably best. There are a lot of Jaguars in this park, but usually they pose no threat to humans. Anyway, it's a breathtaking place. There are no shops around, you must bring your own food and water, hammock and mosquito net if you want to sleep there."

"A beautiful place, with great natural beauty and a very friendly population. I highly recommend it. The days I spent exploring this place were unforgettable. I've rarely felt so close to nature. It's better to go with people you know well to enjoy the experience more. I traveled along the rivers in a small boat, in a rowboat, hiked through the jungle, visited villages on the riverbanks and in the middle of the forest, and even transferred boats. Highly recommended, I hope to return again someday."

Navigating the Amazonian Wilderness

Sierra del Divisor National Park is a vast and remote wilderness, demanding careful planning for any visitor. Access is primarily through gateway towns like Contamana, from where travel typically continues via river. Expect journeys on small motorboats, often referred to as 'peke peke,' which can be tiring but offer incredible opportunities to observe the surrounding nature. Reddit Hiking through the dense jungle is also a significant part of the experience, often involving crossing numerous small rivers on foot. Reddit

Preparation is paramount due to the lack of facilities. Visitors must carry all their own food, water, and essential camping gear, including a hammock and mosquito net. Reddit The intense sun and its reflection on the water necessitate robust sun protection, while the abundance of insects, including potentially dangerous ants and ticks, requires effective repellents. TikTokReddit

Respecting the environment and local communities is crucial. While the park is a haven for wildlife, including jaguars, encounters are rare and usually non-threatening. Reddit The park's establishment and management are supported by organizations like the Andes Amazon Fund, highlighting its ecological importance. TikTok

Unique Natural Wonders

The park is renowned for its extraordinary geological and hydrological features. One of the most captivating is the Boiling River, a natural phenomenon where geothermal activity heats the water to temperatures so high that eggs can be boiled. TikTok This volcanic energy also plays a role in traditional medicinal steam therapies used by local communities. TikTok

Another remarkable site is the Hot Springs Union, where a frigid river converges with a nearly boiling one, creating zones of distinct temperatures. Visitors can carefully test the different thermal zones, but caution is advised due to the extreme heat in some areas. TikTok These unique water features underscore the dynamic geological forces at play within the park.

Beyond these thermal wonders, Sierra del Divisor boasts spectacular landscapes, including the imposing Cerro El Cono, a peak that dramatically rises above the dense tropical forest. TikTok The park is also home to immense trees, some of which are so large they require extensive filming to capture their full scale from root to canopy, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.
