What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Daraitan offers breathtaking summit views and a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear Tinipak River, making the challenging hike rewarding. However, many find it more difficult than advertised, especially when wet, with slippery trails and muddy conditions requiring proper footwear and good physical fitness.
"It's not about the journey, it's about the destination. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER FRIENDLY HIKE. I mean the destinations are great, forgot what I went through when I saw the view from the peak and when I felt the cold refreshing river at the end of the hike. The entire place was muddy, makes my quechua (a hiking sandals) so slippery and the rocks and slippery too."

"Mt. Daraitan is a great spot for hikers looking for a mix of challenge and beautiful views. The trail can be steep and rocky, but the effort is worth it when you reach the summit. From the top, you get a stunning view of the surrounding mountains and rivers, especially at sunrise.
The hike is about 4-6 hours round trip, depending on your pace. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush forests and might spot some local wildlife. There’s also a heart-shaped rock near the summit that’s perfect for photos.
The locals are friendly and knowledgeable, often serving as guides to help you navigate the trail. After the hike, you can cool off in the nearby Tinipak River, which has crystal-clear water and beautiful rock formations."

"Finally hiked the infamous Mt. Daraitan on August 11, 2024, and it did not disappoint. Many people introduced this mountain as a minor hike, but once it rains and the trail becomes muddy, it turns into a major hike. I had good weather during my hike, but the trail was still muddy, and the limestone rocks were extremely slippery. No matter what shoes you wear, they won't help much, so you have to be extra careful when stepping on the rocks. This hike reminded me of my hike on Mt. Makiling, which was also muddy and very slippery. I found the ascent challenging on both mountains, but not the descent. Water sources are not a problem here, as there are stores at various peaks of the mountain that sell food and water. If you regularly hike and are physically fit, you won't have much trouble here. The best part of the hike was the famous heart peak and Tinipak River."

The Trail Experience: More Than Meets the Eye
Footwear is critical. Many reviewers mention that hiking sandals, while seemingly practical, become extremely slippery on the wet terrain. Sturdy hiking boots or shoes with good grip are highly recommended. Some suggest that trekking poles might be more of a hindrance than a help on certain sections due to the need for handholds, while others find them useful. If rain is expected, bringing hand gloves can be beneficial for gripping ropes used in steeper sections.
Despite the challenges, the effort is widely considered worth it. The stunning views from the summit and the refreshing dip in Tinipak River at the end of the hike are consistently praised as rewarding experiences.
Tinipak River: A Natural Oasis
The river is also known for its unique rock formations. These natural sculptures, carved by the water over time, add to the scenic beauty of the area and provide picturesque backdrops for photos. The 'Untamed Vibe' captured by travelers emphasizes the raw, natural beauty of this location.
Visitors often describe the river as a perfect place to cool off and relax, a stark contrast to the challenging climb up Mount Daraitan. It's a place where the beauty of nature truly shines, offering a sense of tranquility and rejuvenation.
Navigating the Terrain: Off-Road Adventures
These off-roading experiences are not just about transportation; they are part of the adventure for many. The ability of these vehicles to traverse difficult paths, including deep water, demonstrates the ruggedness of the landscape. This aspect appeals to adventure enthusiasts and those who enjoy the thrill of overland expeditions.
While the primary focus for most visitors is the hike, the accessibility challenges and the presence of off-road enthusiasts underscore the remote and wild character of the Sierra Madre mountain range where Mount Daraitan is located.
