What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Balangagan Cave is praised for its adventurous yet accessible spelunking experience, historical artifacts like ancient coffins, and unique stalactite formations. It's considered a great option for first-time cave explorers and offers a more budget-friendly and less crowded alternative to other Sagada caves. Some visitors found it to be a 'normal cave' and not as extreme as expected, but generally recommend it for its educational value and natural beauty.
"With its slippery rocky grounds, cold uphill corridors, and descent that requires climbing down with ropes, the Balangagan cave provides a decent amount of adventure (and danger).
The historical and cultural importance of the cave combined with the illusory images of divine figures engraved into stalactites makes the trip through this chilly underground tunnel worthwhile.
The guide is jam-packed with humour and witty jokes too."

"Great place for extreme adventure
You can take pictures with the ancient coffins unlike at hanging coffins
There are also burial jars in the cave"

"2024 May 23. (super late review) I am rating this as 4 starts only because it did not really match my expectations as an adventurer. However, I can easily recommend this to those who would like to try spelunking for the first time. I am going to say that this is kid-friendly, but CHECK WITH YOUR GUIDE first if there is a sort of restriction in age and/or height if you are bringing kids along. The cave entrance is fronted by a pool of water where kids can swim or use inflatable boats on. By the entrance is a wide area where you can have a picnic. The route is easy but is filled with rock formations for photos. And because this is not that heavily promoted (even as of this Jan 2025 review), you probably won't have to deal with the long line that pervades at the Sumaguing Cave (the per pax cost here is cheaper, too!). There are no stores nearby, so I will advise bringing your own food if you get hungry easily. Of course, I will advise that visitors respect the place, and absolutely refrain from littering in order to keep the cave clean. Will I return? I will if I have some spelunking newbies to bring, but on my own, I will have to think about it."
