Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Divine Providence Church Biała for its stunning Baroque architecture and rich interior details, particularly the unique rococo pulpit. Many highlight its historical significance and the free admission, making it a highly recommended stop for those interested in art and history.
"The church represents the late baroque style with a clear 19th-century Austrian neo-baroque influence. The equipment of the temple comes from the second half of the 19th century. Eighteenth century. It’s most famous elements are the rococo pulpit in the shape of a boat of St. Peter, flowing under the sign of the cross, with Jonah in the mouth of a fish and a baptismal font with the scene of Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River and the figure of God the Father surrounded by angels. The wooden, neo-baroque main altar was built in the second half of the 19th century. There is a painting "Miraculous Multiplication of Bread". In 1708, the first mayor of Biała and the richest merchant at that time, trading in linen - Baltazar Damek - founded a chapel there, surrounded by a cemetery until 1790, under the invocation of Divine Providence, and the brotherhood of Divine Providence, which he chaired for a long time. It was built on the site of the cross that Damek had erected after he miraculously avoided death at the hands of a Swedish soldier. The entrance is free of charge!"

Architectural Marvels
The church's equipment, including its altars and decorative elements, largely dates from the second half of the 19th century. This period saw the creation of the striking neo-Baroque main altar, which houses a painting depicting the 'Miraculous Multiplication of Bread'. The attention to detail in these elements contributes significantly to the church's overall aesthetic appeal and historical significance.
One of the most frequently praised features is the rococo pulpit, uniquely designed in the shape of a boat. This symbolic representation of St. Peter, the fisherman of souls, is further adorned with figures of Jonah and a fish, adding a narrative layer to its artistic merit. Alongside this, the baptismal font, illustrating the baptism of Jesus with God the Father and angels, is another highlight that draws admiration from visitors.
A Foundation of Faith and Fortune
Damek's decision to establish the chapel was inspired by a personal experience. He had erected a cross on the site after miraculously surviving an encounter with a Swedish soldier. This act of gratitude and faith led to the establishment of the chapel and the brotherhood of Divine Providence, which Damek himself led for an extended period. The church as it stands today evolved from this foundational chapel, incorporating later architectural styles.
The church's construction and subsequent renovations reflect the historical context of Biała, a city with a rich trading history. The blend of Baroque and neo-Baroque elements speaks to the different periods of influence and prosperity the region experienced. Visiting the church offers not just an appreciation of art and architecture, but also a connection to the historical figures and events that shaped this sacred space.
