"Time of visit: first half of April 2025.
The main street of the medieval center of Obidos is Rua Direita. It is a narrow street that leads from the main city gate to the castle, and is surrounded by geraniums and bougainvillea, shops, restaurants, cafes and several small galleries.
At the end of the street is the former church, now the Santiago bookstore. If you're looking for traditional handicrafts, a souvenir or a place to try Ginha de Obidos liqueur, this is the street to go to. In fact, you can't miss it, as practically every other street and alley in the city seems to lead to it.
Although it dates back to the 14th century, it was expanded in the 16th and 17th centuries. It has always preserved many of its Gothic portals and windows and leads to the picturesque main square, where the city's main church, St. Mary's Church, is located. In addition, here and in the immediate surroundings, there are sights: the City Museum, the walls of Obidoš Castle, the Church-Bookstore in Santiago, the Church of Saint Peter, the Church of Mercy, etc."
