Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Évora's rich history, charming streets, and unique attractions like the Roman Temple and Chapel of Bones. However, some reviews highlight concerns about the city's upkeep, noting instances of neglect, litter, and unpainted buildings, suggesting a need for revitalization.

"Evora desperately needs to be the European city of culture 2027 in order to get a facelift (but does it deserve it?)
I have just spent a few days in Evora with a local friend, not having visited since 2008. I regularly visited around 2000.
Although it was wonderful to revisit buildings and streets that hold such good memories it was very disappointing to see so much neglect - everywhere! Day after day.
Unpainted buildings, endless piles of rubbish almost everywhere, potholes, unswept streets, pavements and roundabouts full of weeds.
I am a tourism consultant, British resident in Uganda East Africa. I travel widely and I'm used to varying standards of order, cleanliness and city administration. I am shocked at how Evora's standards have deteriorated, across the city. This splendid historic city needs rescuing!"

Charlotte Beauvoisin (Diary of a Muzungu)

"Wow, what a place full of history. Honest you can just get lost in this place with all the beautiful colors of merchandise in the streets with wonderful little stores to buy gifts and to find hole in the wall places to eat. I highly recommend going to the top of the cathedral of Evora, what a beautiful view."

Cindy Rodriguez

"A few highlights of our walking tour of Evora’s historic center:

Praça do Giraldo is a 13th century square paved with the traditional calçada portuguesa in geometric patterns.

The fortified Cathedral of Santa Maria, the Igreja de São Francisco and adjacent Chapel of Bones are worth visiting.

But the most interesting was the ruins of the Roman Temple, a symbol of the Roman presence in the Iberian Peninsula still standing today.

There is much more to see and enjoy!"
