Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Roman Principia Visitor Centre as an excellent starting point for exploring Roman history in Alba Iulia. The knowledgeable and passionate guides, engaging introductory video, and the free exterior lapidary are frequently highlighted as major strengths. While the interior visit is brief, it offers valuable insights into the ancient castrum.

"A wonderful museum where the try to bring back to life the ancient castrum of the Romans

Most of the "good stuff" in terms of exhibits is located in the outside lapidary and is available for free. If you pay 10 RON (about 2 Euros) you can go inside and see some of the ruins of the former barracks. The guide is really knowledgeable and does a great job telling the story of the place, there is also a short movie to explain the history."

Klaus Wanderer

"Definitely the place to start if interested in Roman History in Dacia. Small museum that has an outstanding intro video (English subtitles) and two excellent docents who know their history and archaeology, and speak fluent English. Well worth the entrance fee, definitely recommend."

Martha Canipe

"Well presented museum about the life inside Legio's XIII Gemina castrum located in-situ of legio's headquarters, Principia. This is the beginning of Alba-Iulia's rich history.
Staff and curators are very knowledgeable, warm, friendly and proud of their historic heritage.
Highly recommended!"
