What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Piatra Arsă Hut offers a strategic location for mountain enthusiasts, praised for its access to incredible Bucegi trails and stunning plateau views. While the rustic accommodation and limited amenities are noted, many appreciate the unique mountain atmosphere and the opportunity to disconnect. Be prepared for cash-only transactions and manage expectations regarding comfort.
"We stayed in the cabana area. We paid 360 lei for 2 persons and 2 nights. If you don't mind luxury, this is a good place to stay. The condition of the room was not great but okay. No hot water in the shower, no reception on our phones but a decent toilet. The restaurant was not too bad. The waiter is nice and has a lot of stories to tell. But beware, he tried to scare us about the bears and tried to sell us a pepperspray that was not compatible for bears. He asked €50 for a spray that is sold online for €6,5. Didn't seem the first time he tried to scare and scam tourists."

"Good food, great prices and the staff is super friendly.
Plus it s a great starting spot for a lot of mountain tracks."
Razvan Dedu
"We are so grateful for the employees that helped us after hiking in dangerous conditions. They gave us some warm tea for free and helped to find a driver to the city. The waiter who was supporting us also had a very good english and told us a lot of stories about the mountains, including some local folklore. Thank you, guys, you are the best."

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
The final stretch of road to Piatra Arsă is rocky, so many visitors park on the side of the road before the complex. Some cars can manage the terrain, but it's best to be cautious. You can also hike from Busteni, which is a popular starting point for many Bucegi adventures.
Yes, there are a few parking spots next to the complex. However, the road can be challenging, and people often park along the roadside before reaching the hut.
Public transport typically gets you to Busteni. From Busteni, you'll need to arrange a taxi or hike the rest of the way to Piatra Arsă.
The last part of the road is quite rocky and can be difficult for standard vehicles. It's advisable to assess your car's capabilities or consider parking earlier.

🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
It's recommended to book in advance, especially during peak season. You can usually do this by calling or sending an email to the hut.
The hut itself is generally accessible for hikers, but specific operating hours for the restaurant or reception might vary. It's best to check directly if you plan to use their services.
There is no specific entrance fee for the Piatra Arsă Plateau itself, as it's part of the natural mountain landscape. Fees would typically apply only for accommodation or specific services at the hut.
No, due to the lack of reliable signal, Piatra Arsă Hut primarily accepts cash payments only. Make sure to have enough cash on hand.

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
The main draw for families will be the accessible plateau views and the opportunity for short, manageable hikes. Consider routes that are less strenuous and offer rewarding scenery without excessive difficulty. Ensure children are properly equipped with suitable footwear and clothing, as mountain weather can be unpredictable. The remote nature means limited access to immediate medical facilities, so be prepared for minor emergencies.
💰 Budget Travelers
To save on food costs, consider packing your own non-perishable snacks and some meals. While the restaurant is convenient, its prices are higher than in town. Bringing a reusable water bottle is also a good idea, though purchasing bottled water is an option if needed. Remember to carry enough cash, as card transactions are not possible, and ATMs are scarce.
🚶♀️ Solo Adventurers
Be prepared for limited connectivity; this is a chance to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature. Ensure you have a reliable map and navigation tools, and inform someone of your itinerary. The rustic accommodation is part of the adventure, offering a unique mountain experience away from the usual tourist comforts.

Navigating the Bucegi Mountains from Piatra Arsă
When planning your hikes, remember that mountain weather can change rapidly. Always check the forecast, wear appropriate gear, and inform someone of your planned route. The trails can be challenging, so assess your fitness level before embarking on longer excursions. The plateau itself offers stunning, accessible views even if you're not undertaking a strenuous hike.
For those seeking less demanding experiences, the plateau offers opportunities for shorter walks and enjoying the panoramic scenery. The proximity to the cable car station in Busteni also provides an alternative way to access higher altitudes, though hiking from Piatra Arsă offers a more immersive mountain experience.
The Piatra Arsă Hut Experience: Rustic Charm and Practicalities
The restaurant at the hut offers a menu of traditional Romanian dishes. While some guests found the food to be decent, specific recommendations are mixed, with French fries being a point of contention. A unique aspect is the staff's storytelling; some waiters are known for sharing local folklore and mountain tales, which can add a memorable dimension to your stay. However, be discerning, as one review noted an attempt to upsell overpriced bear spray.
Crucially, the hut operates on a cash-only basis due to poor signal connectivity. It's vital to bring enough cash for your entire stay, including accommodation, meals, and any drinks. Planning ahead and bringing some personal supplies, such as extra water and snacks, can also enhance your comfort during your stay at this unique mountain outpost.
