What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the raw, stunning beauty of the Rybachy and Sredny Peninsulas, describing the landscapes as incredible and otherworldly. The historical significance as a WWII battlefield and the opportunity for wilderness camping are major draws. However, the challenging, unmaintained roads and the presence of military remnants and litter are noted drawbacks.

"At the Staraya Titovka checkpoint, documents are checked. The road goes along the Titovka River with cascading waterfalls to the Musta-Tunturi pass (262 m). The climb to the pass is not easy, but the view from the pass of the Barents Sea, tundra and lakes is worth it. At the top, ancient mysterious stone seids await tourists, which were worshiped by the local Sami people.
There is no asphalt, and sometimes there is no road either. Destroyed bridges must be driven around through fords with boulders. It’s better not to try it on your own in SUVs. We also couldn’t get through everywhere, so we looked for detours. Or we changed the route and walked. From Teriberka they offer excursions on SUVs and ATVs.
The landscapes around are incredible and unusual for the southern eye. Seals bask on the rocks in the bay. You walk across the tundra as if walking on the skin of a huge beast. There are a huge number of edible mushrooms and berries underfoot. You can assemble dinner in 5 minutes.
During the day in August it was warm, up to +24°C, at night +10°C.
You need to take with you a windproof windbreaker with a hood, a sweater, a raincoat, and comfortable shoes. We bought mosquito nets and mosquito repellent, but we didn’t need them in August! You don’t even need a flashlight; the long sunset gradually turned into dawn. Extra batteries are very useful to charge phones. It is recommended to fill the tank full and take 1-2 cans with you. Refueling is only on the Murmansk highway.
Must-see: Waterfall on the Skorbeevskaya River - definitely included in the route along Rybachy.
Cape German is the northernmost point on the Russian map.
Cape Kekursky - 900 million years ago, volcanoes and earthquakes formed a fantastic landscape.
Overnight in a tent on the shores of the Barents Sea. If you forget about the tides, you can sail away together in a tent at night. Fried mushrooms, tea with lingonberries against the backdrop of sunset - dinner is better than in a restaurant. The endless summer sunset on Rybachy overlooking Norway invited us to return in winter to admire the northern lights. This is in the plans for the future."

"One of the most beautiful places in the Murmansk region! A battlefield of the Great Patriotic War! Fierce battles with the Germans advancing from Norway took place here! The beauty of the landscape is mesmerizing and stunning!"
