"very good"

HASAN ALJABBAN

"Tatar settlements within the borders of modern-day Saratov emerged in the 17th and 18th centuries. The first stone mosque on this site was built in 1836; the building was later rebuilt and remained in use until the 1930s. Under Soviet rule, the cathedral mosque was half-destroyed and abandoned. By the time the mosque was returned to worshippers, it was beyond repair and was rebuilt between 1995 and 2005. Today, it is a striking structure with a 46-meter-tall minaret. It houses the residence of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Saratov Region, a library, and the Sheikh Said Madrasah."

History and Reconstruction

The history of the Saratov Cathedral Mosque is deeply intertwined with the Tatar settlements in the region, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The first stone mosque was erected in 1836, serving the community until the Soviet era. Tragically, during Soviet rule, the original structure was half-destroyed and subsequently abandoned. This period of neglect left the building in ruins.

Following the return of the mosque to worshippers, it was deemed beyond repair. A significant reconstruction effort took place between 1995 and 2005, breathing new life into the sacred site. The rebuilt mosque stands today as a testament to resilience and faith, featuring a prominent 46-meter-tall minaret that has become a landmark. Reddit

Community and Education Hub

Beyond its role as a place of worship, the Saratov Cathedral Mosque serves as a vital community and educational center. It houses the residence of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Saratov Region, indicating its administrative importance. Furthermore, the mosque complex includes a library, providing resources for learning and reflection. Reddit

A key educational component is the Sheikh Said Madrasah, a Koranic training center. This institution plays a crucial role in religious education for the community. Visitors have noted the presence of shops and a halal cafe on the territory, further enhancing its function as a gathering place and resource for Muslims in Saratov. Reddit
