"holy place..."

"A very beautiful cathedral with an interesting history. It was built in 1751-1760, the bell tower in 1805. The cathedral was closed in 1935, opened by the occupation administration in 1941. Then closed in 1972 and transferred to the local history museum. Reopened in 1993. It is located in an interesting place - at the intersection of two main highways of the city and has two entrances."

"The Cathedral of the Ascension of Our Lord was built after a fire on the site of a church destroyed by fire in 1836. It evolved from a wooden church in 1612 to a white-stone building in the 19th century. The cathedral was rebuilt according to the designs of provincial architect N. Lvov. Like all the buildings on Millionnaya Street, it was integrated into a single façade. In 1922, church valuables were confiscated from the church, and in 1935, it was closed. It housed an exhibition of the Museum of Local History.
It was returned to the Orthodox Church in the 1990s. Services resumed on January 7, 1993.
Currently, the Ascension Cathedral houses the relics of the Holy Martyr Thaddeus (Uspensky), discovered in 1993. He was an archbishop who became the head of the Tver diocese in 1928 and died in NKVD custody on December 31, 1937.
The church has a harmonious appearance, and the interior is cozy, unhurried and uncluttered, despite its location on Tver's main street, Sovetskaya Street, formerly Millionnaya Street."
