"Near the theater is the building of the former Trinity Cathedral. Holy Trinity Cathedral is an inactive Orthodox church in Yakutsk, located on the territory of the lost Yakutsk (Lensky) fortress. It is the second oldest stone building in the city. An architectural monument of regional significance. The former cathedral of the Yakut diocese. It has survived to this day in a dilapidated state, the bell tower is completely destroyed. Emperor Peter I personally gave permission for the construction of the temple in stone. It was built in 1708-1728 in the Yakut fortress. Upon completion of construction, the cathedral was consecrated on July 23, 1728. Architecturally, Trinity Cathedral was designed in the Moscow style of the 15th century, in the form of a tall cube with one dome. After the formation of the Yakut diocese, the temple became its cathedral. The cathedral's appearance changed beyond recognition: extensions were made on four sides, new domes appeared, and a bell tower was built at some distance. After the revolution, the cathedral was closed. In 1929, the domes were removed from the cathedral, the bell tower was destroyed, and the National Theatre was placed in the building. The building was rebuilt, and some archival documents were lost."
