What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bassin La Paix is lauded for its breathtaking natural beauty, featuring a majestic waterfall and a pristine pool surrounded by unique basaltic columns. Visitors are captivated by the dramatic landscape and the short, scenic forest walk. However, recent erosion has made the descent to the riverbed challenging and potentially dangerous, and swimming is strictly prohibited.
"Since Jean Fabio BANOR post, the bottom 70% of the stairs are gone so one must do a strenuous and technically challenging descent from where the stairs have washed away to where the actual river bed is. This section is no longer suitable for anyone not wearing proper hiking shoes and physically able to handle the descent. Once you do make it to the river, keep moving upstream along the rocks until you see the magnificent pool and waterfall."

"This island, which is a French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, was formed by the ancient volcano Piton des Neiges. And although this volcano is dormant, another one, the Piton de la Fournaise, is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. Parts of Réunion are a barren landscape with wide calderas and rocky plains. However, Réunion has many lush places with mossy mountains, thick forests and hundreds of waterfalls. In the picture you see the Bassin La Paix, a pool in the river Rivière des Roches, which here plunges off a cliff."
