"Vailima Botanical Gardens is a must-visit when in Apia! The gardens are beautifully kept and filled with some of Samoa’s most iconic flowers and plants. You’ll see frangipani, hibiscus, ginger flowers, and many tropical trees that make the place so colorful and relaxing to walk through.
The gardens are also part of the historic Vailima estate, once home to Robert Louis Stevenson, the famous Scottish author who spent his final years in Samoa. It’s not just a place to enjoy nature, but also to connect with a piece of Samoan history.

"The lovely 30 acre Vailima Botanical Garden was established in the early 1900s in land next to Robert Louis Stevenson former home. Most people rush through on their way to hike up Mt Vaea but there are some interesting information panels and planted areas. The waterfall pool is amazingly refreshing, though it disappears during the dry season (May to November). Free entry. There is a free public toilet and outdoor shower"
Jonty Crane
"Very peaceful and easy to meander along the paths through the grounds. Lots of flora to discover and many different birds, though you will hear most before you can see them in the trees."
