Reviews Summary

Visitors find Gorée Island a profoundly moving and historically significant destination, offering a stark contrast to bustling Dakar. While the ferry process can be somewhat disorganized and the island's cobblestone streets present accessibility challenges, the poignant history and unique atmosphere are widely praised. Many recommend visiting to understand a crucial part of human history.

"A short trip to the Island of Goree. Price of 5200F for touristic round ticket (Senegalese have lower fare). Worth to visit the island, way different than Dakar."

Tomas Janik

"Everything went perfectly. Arrived there on time, half an hour before the departure (found timetable online), paid 500 cfa tax (apparently a tax to keep the small beach on the island clean… guess what, it’s not very clean) + 5200 cfa for the ferry (both ways). Then you go to a waiting room where you can sit, there’s a tv and even free and clean toilets you can use. Once it’s departure time everyone can stand and go. The ferry is comfortable, you can sit (if you are in the lucky first ones to go on) or stand. The view is very nice. Very sunny and hot, so bring a hat. The crossing takes about 20 minutes. Once on the island some police guys help you to go off the ferry if needed (quite easy)."

Sara Della Santa

"I am a tourist in a wheelchair and took the ferry to goree island. Get to the ticket office at least an hour early it was chaotic buying tickets only one window was open. The ferry was on time. There is about 1 foot gap between the boat and the pier so guys from the boat each grabbed a corner of my wheelchair and carried me over. The boat was crowded and with the wheelchair you really couldn’t get around there was a couple spots to park the chair for the ride over. Groee island itself is minimally wheelchair accessible. Most sidewalks are cobblestone or so damaged you really need to be careful moving around. You can make it work but a little challenging. Everything is closed on Monday!"
