One of the important squares in Maribor is Trg Slobode. In 1975, a monument to the liberators was erected on this square, it is called Kodžak and is the work of sculptor Slavac Tihec.
The square was created in the 19th century. In its place there was a de-silted ditch that was filled in and the square was built.
Next to the square is Maribor Castle, and below the square you can visit the oldest wine cellar in Europe called Vinak. North of the square there is a view of General Maistra Square, as well as the city hill, known as a picnic area, called Piramida.
Here you can enjoy a walk, or you can sit in a cafe."
