What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Skukuza Airport is widely praised for its stunning beauty and unique location within Kruger National Park, offering a memorable start to any safari. Visitors appreciate the efficient and friendly service. However, the open-air design means it can get extremely hot with no air conditioning, and potential flight delays can exacerbate this discomfort.
"Absolutely stunning airport as voted most beautiful airport in the world by Forbes. (Right up there with the charming Koh Samui Airport)
Our resort transfer timed our arrival less than an hour before departure & we were initially a bit worried but it turns out to be just nice timing.
NOTE: if you are staying outside of Kruger Park, you will still need to pay the daily park fee just to get to the airport as it’s located within Kruger.
The small departure hall has just 3 Check-in lanes, retails & toilets only. No luggage wrapping service.
Next to the beautiful Departure Hall set within a beautiful garden there is a takeaway Cafe & toilets too.
Everything in this airport is just a few steps apart. So convenient.
Free WiFi throughout the airport is decent at about 12MBps"

"It's hard to rate this airport. In some ways I want to give it 5 stars: It's the most adorable and unique airport I've ever seen. Check-in is a breeze and the car rental counter is right there, making pick up and return of car convenient.
Considering I think ratings are supposed to reflect to you what you should expect, I rated it lower than a 5 because you should be fully aware that it is an open-air airport with no air conditioning anywhere. The day we departed it was a 110°F (43°C) heat index and our flight was delayed by 2 hrs. We also made the mistake of arriving 2 hrs before our scheduled flight which is not needed for this airport but back when we booked the car rental we arranged a return time 2 hrs before flight thinking we're always supposed to arrive in that time frame. So if you book a rental car then maybe return it within 1 hr of departure. Since we were waiting 4 total hours in the most intense heat we've experienced, anything that can melt, even packed well within your checked baggage, will melt. We boarded our plane sopping wet with sweat and this was the first leg of a long journey to Chicago, IL, USA. This part alone made us wish we would've arranged to stay overnight at any of our connecting airports in order to shower and change. If we have any future flights out of Skukuza in the future, we will know to break it into a multi-day trip home if it's even a little warm because we would've been sweating.
That said, it's not the airport's fault at all but I'm mentioning this warning so that you know what to expect and can be better prepared than we were. The airport itself is very cute and it's small size does provide many conveniences. The staff are friendly as are fellow travelers who just had the same amazing vacation that you did."
