What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for The Cabanas at Sun City are mixed. While guests appreciate the lively atmosphere, access to resort amenities like the Valley of the Waves, and friendly staff, many find the rooms to be dated and the overall experience can be noisy with loud music and late-night disturbances. Some feel it doesn't offer the best value compared to other Sun City hotels.
"Feedback on our stay at Cabanas – Sun City - 19-21Sep25
Unfortunately, our stay at the Cabanas was disappointing compared to the other wonderful hotels at Sun City.
The rooms, meant for 2 adults and a sleeper couch suitable for 2 small kids, were mostly occupied by 4 adults, leading to overcrowding. This made the hotel feel more like a hostel at times. The dining area was chaotic, food was average, and the eggs sat out for hours. Attention to detail, making the buffet more "attractive" is needed. I actually had no appetite looking the bulk food and the long Q's....
The pool area was overcrowded as well, with loud music blasting all day long. While some may enjoy a party vibe, the DJ should be more mindful of the diverse types of guests staying at the hotel.
Another issue was that, due to the overcrowding, many guests were taking alcohol back to their rooms, partying late into the night, and creating a lot of noise. If this is positioned as a family hotel, there should be better control and stricter enforcement to ensure all guests can rest peacefully.
The rooms themselves are tired and in need of attention, and the grounds could be much better maintained.
What makes this more disappointing is that the price difference between the Cabanas and the Cascades is not very big — yet the Cascades offers a far superior experience in every way. For the price paid, the Cabanas does not feel worthwhile.
It’s a pity, because Sun City has so many amazing hotels — but sadly, the Cabanas does not measure up. I will unfortunately not be back and will not recommend this hotel."

"Totally disappointed with my experience at the Cabanas. Booked 2 rooms. Other guests which looked like students lingering around our patio entrance, loud music, other student like guest with alcohol bottles in hand almost everywhere. The look and feel of the place inside and out isn't appealing. Bathroom had an odour. Colours in room kills the elegance. It's just not worth the price. Let's not even mention the breakfast. Flies on the food, on the milk jug. Queues are so long, dining area is so noisy. Never to return. I will definitely share my experience with family and friends. I don't need a response or feedback. Thx"

"This was a difficult review since there were some good times and some not so good.
I booked 5 nights at the Cabanas for our family of 4, and forked out about R25k, coming from KZN. The main attraction for us was the Valley of the Waves. Unfortunately, they don't have the varied food choices but we were forced to buy lunch because of a ridiculous rule of no food/drinks allowed. Traveling with kids on longish holidays is hard enough then to be faced by these rules is just unnecessary. Afterall is it not the message from the GM that visitors must have a fantastic experience...I suppose this is for the affluent accommodations.
At breakfast, besides the eggs, cheeses and pastries, nothing else really was yummy.
If you don't golf or gamble, care for yet another bush tour, a much to see about nothing river boat cruise, you're left with the valley of the waves, and by day 2 that too was enough.
I must say the staff, and I mean all of them that we encountered were so friendly and helpful. The room was maintained meticulously and the breakfast area clean. The pool was also very nice.
If we could afford better accommodations in the future at Sun City, I probably wouldn't return."
