What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Daechongbong Peak is lauded for its absolutely incredible, breathtaking summit views of the park and East Sea, making the strenuous hike undeniably worth it. While challenging, the diverse trails offer options for different fitness levels. Some visitors found the winter conditions extremely cold, and the long hikes require significant physical fitness.
"This was my favorite spot in Seoraksan. At over 1700 meters, the views of the surrounding park and the East Sea were just incredible. I went in winter and it was absurdly cold (the day I hiked it the high temperature for the day was -6 C, the following day the high temperature was -13 C), but boy was it worth it.
This peak is reached primarily from two routes. The shorter route is about a 5km hike from the Osaek Trailhead (with about 1300m of elevation gain), so it is short but steep. The longer route starts from Sinheungsa Temple and is around 8 or 9km, but it isn't quite as steep, and it boasts far better views. I took a bus to the Osaek Trail and did a through hike to Sinheungsa Temple, and it took me around 7.5 hours (though I tend to hike pretty fast). Either way, with an early start in can be done as a day hike.
Hiking here isn't easy and does require decent physical fitness, but man is it worth it. My favorite spot in Korea so far"

"Hiked to the top of Seoraksan.
Recommended Hiking course for this peak was 2 days/ 1 night but did it within 12 hours :o. Started our hiking at 3AM and Finished at 3PM. Absolutely stunning view, Words can't describe how beautiful. Took some cool photos, check them out.
Hiking course was: Osaek to Daseongbong to Seoraksannational park, total hiking trail about 17km."

"This is the highest peak in the Seoraksan National Park and the third highest in South Korea. The view and weather up there is just amazing. I would recommend the Baekdamsa Entrance - Daecheongbong Peak - Seorakdong Visitor Center trail to experience most of the area. It's 23.9 km long and takes an average of 12 hours to complete."
