What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Gyeongbokgung Palace for its stunning architecture, rich history, and the immersive experience of wearing a hanbok. The free entry with hanbok rental is a major draw, and the changing of the guard ceremony is a memorable spectacle. Some find the palace can get very crowded, especially on weekends, and navigating the vast grounds requires comfortable footwear.
"I enjoy visiting palaces and temples in East Asia. Some places have a lot of description in English. Sadly, this location didn’t really have enough in English for me to understand a lot about the place.
The grounds were very clean. The changing of the guard was very interesting.
We arrived at a few minutes before 9 o’clock and were able to walk through without huge crowds. But after the changing of the guard in the guard got to be too much."

"I truly enjoyed this palace. I saw so many people wearing hanbok, it really added an authentic feel to walking around this palace. The palace is very well preserved, your able to walk around all the alleys and walk ways. You get an intimate feel of how the people felt walking around this beautiful palace. They also had some imperial soldiers and generals in costumes marching around. It was very cool to see that. It's a must see in Seoul"

"Tickets cost $2 USD per adult and we were able to buy them at the gate with no wait. If you choose the self-guided tour, they will hold your passport as a deposit. I recommend going early to catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony at 10:00 AM and to avoid the midday heat. Be prepared to walk quite a bit, but it’s worth it—the grounds are peaceful and beautifully maintained. The self-guided tour really enhanced the visit, as it provided valuable historical context that isn’t explained on the limited plaques around the site."
