Reviews Summary
Seoak Seowon offers a unique and tranquil hanok stay experience, praised for its cleanliness and historical ambiance. However, some guests find the thin bedding and shared bathroom facilities less comfortable than modern accommodations, and noise can be an issue due to thin walls.
"It was an interesting experience to stay at this old school, but the bedding was too thin so sleeping on the floor was uncomfortable, plus having to go to another building to use the bathroom kind of sucked especially since you have to put on your shoes to walk across the courtyard to get there, then take them off again at the bathroom, then put them back on to go back to your room, then take them off again before entering your room. Also it was a bit noisy since the walls are paper thin and you can hear everyone around you even when your both in your own room.
On the plus side everything was clean, and the area was mostly tranquil.
All in all, the experience was neat, but it would have been cheaper and much more comfortable at a hotel."

"Seoak Seowon was founded in 1561 (the 16th year of King Myeongjongβs reign) to honor Kim Yu-sin. After discussion with Toegye Lee Hwang, he received a plaque as Seoakjeongsa Temple. It was destroyed during the Japanese invasions of Korea, but was rebuilt several times from 1600 (the 33rd year of King Seonjo's reign) until the reign of King Gojong, until it reached what it is today.
The buildings include Myodang (unnamed), Jesancheong and Naesammun, Jegigo, Siseupdang (Seowak Seowon), Dongjae and Study, Yeonggwiru and Oesammun, Gojiksa's main building and sarangchae, and Munganchae."
