Reviews Summary

Seonimgyo Bridge is praised for its striking red arch design and the enchanting carvings of seven nymphs, drawing inspiration from Korean legend. Visitors appreciate the scenic valley views and the mythical ambiance. However, some find that dense foliage obstructs the carvings, and cyclists face restrictions within the park.

"Seonim Bridge: A Mythical Crossing, Hidden Beauty

Seonim Bridge, or '7 Nymphs Bridge,' is a striking red arch bridge featuring carvings of mythical nymphs. Its design, inspired by Korean legend, is eye-catching. Each side of the bridge is adorned with intricate carvings of seven nymphs, water fairies from Korean legend, each depicted playing a different musical instrument. This homage to the tale of celestial beings descending to bathe in the Cheonjeyeon River adds a layer of enchantment to the crossing.

However, the bridge's full splendor is somewhat blocked by the dense, overgrown trees and bushes. While the red arches are visible, it is difficult to capture the intricate carvings without a zoom lens.

Despite this, the bridge itself is well-maintained and provides a quick, scenic crossing of the valley. The panoramic view from the bridge's vantage point, overlooking the valley and the Cheonjeyeon River is a memorable experience.

Tip: Head to the small viewing platform for the 2nd waterfall of Cheonjeyeon Falls located on the opposite end of the bridge.

Overall, Seonim Bridge is a worthwhile stop for its unique design and mythical connection."

"Kitty and I were on a round island adventure on our bicycles, following the Jeju fantasy bike path. Seonim Bridge was one of our planned stops, but we had a bit of a disappointing experience.

The map led us right to the waterfall, but it wasn't suitable for cycling and we are unable to reach the bridge. We had to cycle back up a steep hill, which was pretty tiring. Then, when we reached the park, we learned there was an entrance fee and the bridge was quite a distance in. We were stopped at the ticketing counter because bicycles aren't allowed in the park.

We asked if they could watch our bikes while we walked across the bridge, but they said no. We were really bummed because we had looked forward to seeing this beautiful bridge up close and watch Cheonjeyeon Waterfall from above. We ended up just seeing it from afar and not able to see the waterfall.

Seonim Bridge looks like a beautiful spot, and we can see why it's a popular tourist attraction. But we think it's a shame that bicycles aren't allowed in the park. Jeju Island is known for its cycling paths, and we think it would be great to be able to cycle around the park and see the bridge.

We're giving Seonim Bridge a lower rating because of the bicycle restrictions. We hope they reconsider their policy and allow cyclists to explore this amazing place."

"Seomin Bridge is nice to see but... from outside the park! There is absolutely no good viewpoint inside the park. Trees are everywhere, even in front of the observatory point! I mean, I love nature and I like when it grows, but a bit of pruning sometimes would be appreciated, especially when people pay for it. I suggest going down the South, along the street to observe it."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Legend of the Seven Nymphs

Seonimgyo Bridge, often called the '7 Nymphs Bridge,' draws its charm from a beloved Korean legend. The story tells of seonnyeo, or celestial nymphs, who would descend from the heavens to bathe and frolic in the pristine waters of the Cheonjeyeon River. The bridge's design is a beautiful tribute to this folklore, with intricate carvings of seven nymphs adorning its sides. Each nymph is depicted with a unique musical instrument, adding a layer of artistic detail to the mythical narrative. Reddit

These carvings are meant to evoke the magical atmosphere of the legend, inviting visitors to imagine the celestial beings enjoying the natural beauty of Jeju Island. The bridge's vibrant red color further enhances its visual appeal, making it a striking landmark against the natural backdrop. It's a place where architecture and mythology intertwine, offering a glimpse into Korean cultural heritage. TikTok

While the carvings are a key feature, some visitors have noted that they can be partially obscured by the surrounding dense foliage. Despite this, the bridge remains a popular spot for those interested in Korean myths and unique architectural designs. Reddit

Navigating Access and Views

Visiting Seonimgyo Bridge involves understanding its location within the Cheonjeyeon Waterfall complex and its associated access policies. There is an entrance fee to the complex, and visitors should be aware that bicycles are not permitted inside the park. This has been a point of contention for cyclists who are exploring Jeju Island's extensive bike paths, leading to disappointment for some who had planned to cycle directly to the bridge. Reddit

When it comes to capturing the bridge's beauty, opinions are mixed. While the bridge itself is a picturesque red arch, dense, overgrown trees and bushes can sometimes obstruct the view of the nymph carvings and the waterfalls. Some visitors have found that the best vantage points for photography are actually from outside the park, particularly along the southern street. Reddit This suggests that while the park offers an immersive experience, external perspectives might yield clearer photographic opportunities.

Despite these challenges, the bridge is generally considered well-maintained and offers a quick, scenic crossing. A small viewing platform near the second waterfall of Cheonjeyeon Falls is also recommended as a good spot to appreciate the bridge and its surroundings. Reddit The bridge is also lined with 34 stone lanterns that are lit nightly, providing a different, enchanting visual experience after sunset. Reddit
