Its name comes, according to theories, from a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary (or of the Rose), which housed the image of Our Lady of Miracles, later moved to the Old Cathedral, or from Captain Gaspar de la Rosa, an 18th-century figure. Originally called the Arch of Santiago after the nearby fishing district, it featured an elbow-shaped defensive design with a machicolation and a tower (now gone). Expanded to accommodate carriages, it was restored in 1973 and has been a Site of Cultural Interest since 1985."
