Reviews Summary
San Cristóbal Parish Church is a historically significant landmark with impressive architecture, including its prominent bell tower. However, visitor experiences can be mixed, with some reporting issues regarding entry fees and inconsistent opening hours, even for prayer.
"This summer, they won't let you in to pray during the day. They force you to pay admission because the man at the entrance decides, despite your assurances to the contrary, that you're a tourist and forces you to pay. He decides whether you look like a recluse or a tourist. It's not about blocking views and noise while Mass is being celebrated, as I've read. There's no Mass or any celebration. Prayer and praying are prohibited. Unless it requires payment. UNPRESENTABLE."

"The story of the construction of this church has much to tell, due to a conflict (we'll leave it there). The church's construction began in 1648, with the townspeople contributing money, work, and a few years of their lives, as it would take almost a century before the first mass was celebrated here. The church has a quadrangular floor plan and a rectangular chevet, with three naves and an imposing, four-story prismatic tower, topped in the 18th century with a balustrade and ending in a pyramidal pinnacle. It venerates the Christ of Amparo, the patron saint of fishermen, under whose patronage the Comillas sailors sailed and to whom they entrusted themselves in times of greatest danger."

"On June 22nd, I arrive in Comillas as a pilgrim. I head toward the beautiful church to visit it and collect my pilgrim's stamp. As I pushed through the gate, a man blocked my path and informed me that the church was closing. Behind him, I could see the priest: "There are NO stamps here!"
The door slammed shut, and I stood there.
Oh God, what was that?"
