Reviews Summary
Playa de las Cucharas is praised for its clean, soft sand and pleasant, safe waters, making it ideal for swimming and relaxing. Visitors appreciate the convenience of nearby shops and restaurants, as well as the opportunity to explore fascinating rock pools. However, some find the surrounding beachfront area to be dated and lacking in public amenities like toilets.
"Lovely beach, clean with nice water. Overall a pretty safe place. Would swim here again."

"I hate to leave a review on what is specifically a beach, and a really nice beach at that.
However the whole beach front area and restaurants are very tired and over "british-fied" if that makes sense. Think like a run down blackpool, where each restaurant could do with a lick of paint. Quite a few vacant buildings as well. It's sad and I'm sure 10-15 years ago this would have been a much nicer area to walk around.
Also, big big problem for me, the lack of public toilets! Walked for ages without seeing one!"

"Beautiful, clean beach with wonderful sand. Easy to get in and out of water, lots of services nearby. Shame the beach showers aren't working (out of season?) and there are a few annoying towel sellers etc etc around..."

Understanding the 'Sea Cockroaches'
These creatures are often found in shallow coastal waters and can sometimes be seen near the shore or in rock pools. Their presence indicates a relatively healthy marine environment. While some TikTok videos mention 'plagues' of bugs, this is likely an exaggeration or specific to a different location, as horseshoe crabs are not typically considered a nuisance at Playa de las Cucharas.
Navigating Costa Teguise's Atmosphere
Despite this, the beach itself remains a significant draw. The promenade offers a pleasant space for evening strolls, and the proximity to shops and bars is convenient. If you're looking for a beach with amenities and a relaxed, familiar environment, Costa Teguise and Playa de las Cucharas can still be a good choice. However, if you prefer a more secluded or culturally immersive setting, you might want to explore other parts of Lanzarote.
Beach Amenities and Practicalities
However, a recurring point of feedback is the scarcity of public toilets. While there are shops and restaurants nearby, finding accessible public restrooms can be a challenge for some visitors. Additionally, be prepared for the presence of towel sellers, who can sometimes be persistent. A firm but polite refusal is usually effective. Some visitors have also noted that beach showers may not be operational, especially outside of peak season.
