What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the spectacular beauty of Río Higuerón Gorge, especially the impressive waterfall and hidden blue pools. However, many note the significant seasonal variation in water flow, with the river often dry in summer. The hike's challenging sections and the need for caution are frequently mentioned, making it a rewarding but demanding experience.
"I have been hiking here in the end of hot August so the river was only in few parts of a trail and it was a small stream. But in the end of my path I found fantastic pool pure and blue fresh water. That was awesome! The trail is easy to go and not crowded. Take more water and sunscreen"

"You can either reach the waterfall by following the river bed from the city centre or by walking by the old irrigation ditch. I would not recommend the irrigation ditch because it could be as dangerous as "El Caminito del Rey" before it was refurbished for tourism. If you walk from the city centre, do not get frustrated if you don't see water because there will be plenty of it eventually. Once you reach the river, you will encounter a few waterfalls before you reach the last one which is very impressive. I must say that this route is not for amateurs, I would say the difficulty is medium or medium high, and it's advisable to do it with other people, don't go alone in case of accidents. Finally, it is the most spectacular and challenging route I've done till now."

"It's a lovely hike. In July, however, the river was almost dry, with water only in a few places. You can do a lovely loop along the river, combining it with the Acequia de Lizar a little further upstream, or you can walk the entire route there and back."
