What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Peña de Hierro to be a visually striking site, particularly the intensely red, mineral-rich flooded quarry. While some are disappointed by the limited access to mine tunnels, many appreciate the unique geological spectacle and the historical context, especially when combined with the Riotinto train experience. The site's connection to NASA's Mars research adds an intriguing layer of interest.
"The mine is very small, you mainly only cross one tunnel to reach a big water pond. I was disappointed as I was expecting to see more of the mine, some narrow tunnel etc... it is not really worth it, I would rather recommend the train ride fron ríotinto. Still the water pond with red water due to the muneral is interesting. Narrow tunnels have been flooded naturally, so you can only see an entrance that gives you an idea of how nrrow it was but you can not go down."

"It is a nice place, however I would not say that visiting the mining tunnel (and paying for it) is a "must see". I would anyway recommend to have a walk in this area enjoying the nice views to the mine."
Maksym Gaiduk
"You can buy a ticket for Peña de Hierro in the mine park of Riotinto and... you should! It's an amazing place with an interesting history (recently, NASA scientists paid a visit, for example)!"
