"It is the second bridge in the Ourense chronology: its inauguration, at the beginning of the 20th century, earned the "Ponte Maior" the title of "old" (old bridge), until then the only one spanning the Miño. Designed by engineer Martín Díaz de la Banda, the construction was completed and it was inaugurated in 1918 to facilitate and improve communication between the two banks. It consists of six stone arches and a metal parabolic arch section with a 74-meter span. Once across the river, two more arches emerge: the first bent arch and the second semicircular arch, identical in size to the first. It is located 450 meters upstream from the Ponte Vello. Anchors, bridges, oak leaves, and other motifs decorate the bas-reliefs on the stone arches at the ends of this bridge, a symbol of the splendor of Ourense in the early 20th century."
