"A beautiful, well-maintained building in the city center.
This early 20th-century building is a modernist building with neoclassical and neo-Renaissance elements, with Baroque influences. It was built in 1914, designed by Jerónimo Arroyo, and is considered his masterpiece.

Made of Hontoria stone, brick, iron, and glass, the main façade's richly decorated central section stands out, with three semicircular arches at its doors and a rich balcony. Inside, the lobby stands out, with Italian-style frescoes and reliefs, and behind the elegant staircase, houses important works by Palencia artists.

Nearby, on the left side, we find the Mercado de Abastos (Food Market), an example of iron and glass architecture, and on the right side, we find the Teatro Principal (Principal Theater), built in the early 19th century, following the model of 17th-century Italian theaters. Thus, they form a beautiful setting in the city of Palencia."

"The Provincial Council Palace (1902-1916) is a historicist building - predominantly Neo-Plateresque, but also Neoclassical with Neo-Baroque elements - designed by the Palencia architect Jerónimo Arroyo López (1871-1946) and completed after its inauguration (1914) by the provincial architect, the Asturian José Avelino Díaz Fernández-Omaña (1889-1960). Built with Hontoria stone, iron, brick and glass. Cost: 230,000 pesetas. As a tragic and heroic note, Gaspar Arroyo, interim chief engineer of the fire department, died putting out a fire that broke out in this building designed by his father, on December 24, 1966."
