O seu casco antigo, moi ben conservado, conta cunha gran riqueza arquitectónica con multitude de edificios relixiosos, pazos e prazas porticadas. Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the historical significance of the Castro Monteagudo House as the original home of the Provincial Museum and its Baroque architecture. The connection to the Caldas de Reis Treasure, though housed elsewhere, is a major draw. Some find the current exhibit locations a bit spread out.

"This 18th century Baroque manor house (1760) was built by Mr. Xosé Castro Monteagudo and was the first building to house the facilities of the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra in 1927. Among its collections of pre-Roman goldsmithing, the Caldas de Reis Treasure stands out, which is currently exhibited in the Sarmiento building. It consists of thirty-six pieces of gold weighing more than twenty carats belonging to the Bronze Age. It is connected to the other manor house of García Flórez, which is also part of the Museum, by an arch over Flórez Street that allows passage between the two buildings. To the right of the Museum, on the wall of the ramp that goes up to Laranxo Street, we can see a coat of arms of the city of Pontevedra inside an oval medallion: a bridge of three arches with two crenellated towers at the ends. A little further on, on the pilaster that ends the balustrade of the ramp, another coat of arms with the representation of the Mariño lineage (three wavy stripes). And finally, on the rear facade of the Museum that faces Laranxo Street, a third circular shield from the 17th century, also from the city of Pontevedra, this one with a guard ending in a cross, in the center of the bridge."

The Provincial Museum of Pontevedra: A Historical Journey

The Museo de Pontevedra is not a single entity but a collection of historical buildings, with the Castro Monteagudo House and the García Flórez House being key components. The Castro Monteagudo House, built in 1760, was the very first building to house the museum's collections in 1927. It offers a tangible connection to the region's past through its architecture and original purpose. The two houses are famously linked by an archway over Flórez Street, creating a unique visual and architectural feature that connects the historical narrative of the museum. Reddit

While the Castro Monteagudo House provides the historical setting, its most celebrated artifact, the Caldas de Reis Treasure, is currently housed in the Sarmiento Building. This collection comprises thirty-six exquisite gold pieces from the Bronze Age, weighing over twenty carats, showcasing exceptional ancient craftsmanship. Visitors interested in archaeology and pre-Roman history will find this treasure a significant draw. Planning your visit to include the Sarmiento building is essential to see this remarkable exhibit. Reddit

Beyond the main treasures, the museum's exterior itself is a canvas of history. Look for the various coats of arms adorning the walls and ramparts.
