What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Carteia to be a wonderful and interesting archaeological site, particularly praising the enthusiastic guides who share detailed historical insights. The well-preserved Roman baths and garum production areas are highlights. However, some find it underwhelming compared to other regional sites, noting that many buildings are viewed from a distance and the surrounding industrial areas detract from the experience.
"It was an interesting visit to learn more about the place , we recommend it highly. Thanks to Patricia for the explanation."

"This place is extremely wonderful. We did the tour with 6 people. Ana was our guide. She did a great job. She told us with so much enthusiasm every detail about Carteia. It was in Spanish, but good to follow. They have a real cool tepidarium and a cool tower. Also places where they made garum. The path is very good to walk with some shadow places. Good for people who can walk not so good. There is a toilet, very clean. Parking space enough.
Free entrance. Advice book it before you go. They are open at 10.00 and the tour starts at 10.00 and 12.00 only. Closed after 14.00."

"Still very much an archaeological site. If you are interested in the Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman periods then Carteia is well worth the visit. In 2017 tours had to be pre-arranged and conducted. Check with San Roque tourist office."
