Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Colexio de Fonseca for its stunning Galician Renaissance architecture, particularly its serene cloister and historic lecture halls. The fact that it's completely free to enter is a major draw, offering a peaceful and beautiful experience just steps from the Cathedral. While some note there isn't a vast amount to see, most agree it's a highly recommended, worthwhile stop for its charm and historical significance.

"Free entrance to the Palace of Fonseca which is also a functioning library tied to the university.

As you walk in, on your left, there is a free art exhibit (see pictures) worth seeing, if it is still there when you visit.

Casual walk inside the cloister which dates back 500 years, a nice and fun walk to see the architectural details of the building.

About 20 minutes to visit.

Highly recommended."

"I had the chance to visit the Pazo de Fonseca in Santiago de Compostela, and it was an unforgettable experience. As one of the city’s most historic buildings, it beautifully showcases Galician Renaissance architecture. The entrance, with its elegant arch and coat of arms, immediately caught my eye. Inside, the cloister is peaceful and full of charm, surrounded by galleries with stone columns. The Pazo’s rich history as the original site of the University of Santiago adds depth to its beauty, making it a must-see for history and architecture lovers."

"This beautiful architectural gem is a must see in Santiago de Compostela. It is entirely free to enter the museum. It is just a few steps away from the Cathedral de Santiago de Compostela, the College of Santiago Alfeo Creado por Alfonso III De Fonseca originating in 1495 in the very early stages of science. The museum is housed in one of the original lecture halls, which boasts a magnificent finely carved solid wood coffered ceiling. Also in situ are the marble steps leading to a wooden lectern. The hall is now home to various artifacts and tools used in history for scientific research. Samples of stones, crystal, marble and granite are displayed also. The courtyard is quaint, peaceful and serene, a large staircase leads to the gallery above with various canvases of artwork on display, also well worth seeing. On the staircase there is yet another beautiful coffered ceiling with a huge cast iron candelabra, now electrified."
