During our Easter holiday in southern Spain, we took our kids to explore the vibrant culture of Seville—and part of that journey included a visit to Mercado de Triana, a place often listed as a must-see in local guides. However, our experience left much to be desired.
As someone who seeks out markets to get a real sense of local life and flavors, I found this stop surprisingly underwhelming. Rather than a bustling traditional market filled with fresh produce, artisan goods, and local chatter, Mercado de Triana felt more like a curated collection of small restaurants aimed at tourists. While the interior is undeniably clean and well-maintained, it lacks the rustic charm and authenticity that make local markets so memorable.
Food-wise, prices were on the higher end compared to other spots we visited in Seville, and unfortunately, the taste didn’t justify the cost. Most dishes we tried were quite salty—perhaps a side effect of the sweltering spring temperatures, but still a letdown overall.
If you’re looking for an authentic market experience, this may not be the place. For us, it was a quick stop, not a highlight of our trip."
