Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Macarena Gate and the adjacent sections of the Seville City Walls to be historically interesting, offering a glimpse into the city's medieval past. While the architecture is appreciated, some reviewers note that the surrounding areas can appear less maintained compared to central Seville, and the gate itself might not be a standalone 'amazing' monument for everyone. It's often seen as a worthwhile stop for its historical context and proximity to the Basilica de la Macarena.

"Part of the visitor attractions of Seville but not so well known. Great arch, medieval walls and church"

Andrew Latham

"It's a pretty piece of architecture in a pretty area. Major landmark on the north side of the old city, framed by the medieval walls. Well worth the time to head up and visit. If you'd like some spicy drama appended to your cultural experience, Google the fascist general Gonzalo Queipo de Llano who was interred at La Macarena with a lovely little shrine that didn't get relocated until 2018 (!!!). The shadows of the past are long everywhere in Sevilla."

Roberto Valenzuela

"Worth a visit to see the 12th century walls that stretch out on one side with the moat and primarywall. The arch in itself isn't so much of a sight but therex are much smaller passages through the wall which are more visually impactive and you can get right up close to see the stonework. The church is obviously just on the left of the wall too"
