Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the incredible variety of cheeses, with hundreds of types available, making it a paradise for cheese lovers. The opportunity to pair these with local wines and beers is also a major highlight. However, some find the tasting portions small and the ticket system expensive, leading to a feeling of being overcharged for limited samples.

"Wow! 500+ different types of cheeses and a great selection of wine. You can purchase a bottle for 6-9€ and enjoy while sampling the delicious cheese tapas. I loved the truffle cheese but there were so many amazing options. I would recommend this festival to anyone planning a visit - the town is very beautiful and well preserved, and the local community is very welcoming and friendly :) gracias"

"A 10/10 experience! I've been putting off visiting Trujillo for years, and this year I finally wanted to go.

We went on the opening day of the fair, which was at 12 p.m., so we took advantage of the opportunity to check out the other stalls before arriving at the square.

In the square, there were tons of stalls where you could try cheeses (tickets cost €5 and admission was €8). One ticket per tasting, although other cheeses cost 2, 3, or 4 tickets. Beers and wine could also be exchanged for tickets, although they were only 3 or 4.

Highly recommended experience!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Art of Cheese Tasting

The Museo del Queso y del Vino offers an unparalleled opportunity to dive deep into the world of cheese. With over 400 varieties, visitors can explore a spectrum of flavors, textures, and aromas. From the mild and creamy to the sharp and aged, there's a cheese for every palate. Many reviews highlight the sheer diversity, mentioning everything from exotic cheeses to regional specialties like Torta del Casar. Reddit

When tasting, consider the milk type (cow, goat, sheep, buffalo) and the aging process (soft, cured, extra-cured) as these significantly influence the final taste. Pairing these cheeses with local wines and craft beers, also available at the venue, elevates the experience. This is where the 'vino' part of the museum's name truly shines, offering a chance to discover harmonious flavor combinations. TikTokInstagram+1

It's worth noting that tasting portions can be small, and a ticket system is often in place. This means budgeting is key if you want to sample extensively. Some visitors have noted that prices can increase annually, and individual samples might seem expensive for their size. Reddit However, for true cheese enthusiasts, the experience of discovering such a vast array of high-quality cheeses is often considered well worth the cost.

Navigating the Fair and Ticketing

Attending a special event or fair at the Museo del Queso y del Vino can be a vibrant experience, but it requires some strategic planning. These events often draw large crowds, so arriving early is crucial to make the most of your visit and avoid disappointment, especially for popular stalls or limited-edition products. Reddit

The ticketing system is a common point of discussion among visitors. Typically, you purchase a set of tickets that you then exchange for cheese samples, wine, or beer. While this system allows for flexibility, it's important to be aware that individual samples can be small, and the cost per sample can add up quickly. Some reviews mention that prices have increased over the years, and a small piece of cheese might cost a significant number of tickets. Reddit

For those with dietary restrictions, like celiac disease, proactive communication is key. It's advised to inquire about gluten-free bread options at the information booths or to bring your own, as these can sell out rapidly. Reddit Understanding the ticket structure and portion sizes beforehand will help manage expectations and ensure a more enjoyable and cost-effective experience.

Beyond the Cheese: The Tequisquiapan Experience

While the Museo del Queso y del Vino is the main draw, the surrounding town of Tequisquiapan offers a charming complement to your visit. Located in the heart of Queretaro, this 'Pueblo Mágico' is known for its colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant atmosphere. Instagram

Exploring Tequisquiapan allows you to soak in the local culture and discover other artisanal products. Beyond cheese and wine, you might find local crafts, textiles, and other regional delicacies. The town itself provides a picturesque setting for leisurely strolls, with opportunities for beautiful photography, especially during the golden hours. TikTokInstagram

Many visitors find that combining a visit to the museum with a wander through Tequisquiapan makes for a well-rounded day trip. The friendly local community and the overall relaxed ambiance contribute to a memorable experience, making it more than just a culinary destination but a cultural immersion. Reddit
