What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
While the natural beauty of Conangles Valley, especially its autumn foliage, is widely praised, some visitors have reported negative experiences with the refuge staff, citing rudeness and unhelpfulness. It's recommended to manage expectations regarding services and to have backup plans.
"We came in after a long day of walking, due to a very heavy thunderstorm, absolutely drenched and needing some shelter. The rude, greasy chef/guard, wouldn’t let us in as we had no booking, despite the place looking empty. We asked where we could get the bus, or if he could call a taxi and he just scoffed and walked away.
My brother asked if he could use the bathroom and the same man said no, and told us to get on a bus away from the Refugio. We stood in the doorway, waiting with another person he refused to let in, with the storm ongoing, while he stood inside, shooting us dirty looks every 2 minutes.
This man shouldn’t be in a position to look after people, as he is completely immoral, lacks decency, and cares for no one but himself."

"Was walking the GR11 stage from Refugio dera Restanca, however, a bad thunderstorm started 2km from the end of the walk. We just about managed to make it to the refugio, however, the rude owner/chef(?) refused to let us in for shelter, and maintained a miserable attitude for the whole time we were there. He even refused to let us use the toilet.
Would not recommend going here."

"To start things off if I could give this zero star I would. Never met someone so rude and ignorant in my life. We arrived in a thunderstorm seeking refuge to work out plans to stay the night as camping wasn’t an option. The owner refused to let us through into the refugio and made us stand in the doorway not even letting us use the bathroom. Where is the humanity! The man clearly gets a kick out of this and I hope he sees through his ignorance one day. I highly doubt it."
