Visitors find the Monumento aos Cabalos to be an impressive and energetic sculpture, a significant piece of Vigo's art scene. While its central location in a traffic circle makes safe pedestrian access difficult, the scale and artistry of Jose Olvieira's work are widely appreciated. The unique travelators leading up to the area are also a notable and enjoyable feature for many.
"It’s a statue nothing astounding , the ride up to it on the Travelators is more impressive."
Rob
"An impressive sculpture on the horizon as you walk up the street towards it. The horses ooze energy and vibrancy, captured in their skywards dance. It’s in the middle of the traffic circle so pedestrian access is not safely possible- a pity because a photo with the horses would have been memorable."
Vincent Oliver
"This water feature is on the main gateway road into the centre of Vigo. It has a Horses sculpture (Los Caballos) by Jose Olvieira erected in 1991. It's 60 ft. high and weighs 40 tons comprising of a herd of 5 horses. O Castro park nearby had horses & the mountains around Vigo still have wild horses.
Vigo is renouned for its sculptures and street art and this one is probably my favourite of them all given it's huge visibility and impressive size and scale,"
