What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Old Cathedral of Santa María for its unique history and the exceptional guided tours that reveal its fascinating construction and restoration story. The tower views are a significant highlight, offering stunning panoramas. While not as ornate as some other Spanish cathedrals, its architectural integrity and the immersive experience make it a highly recommended visit.
"Truely terrific place. A combination of a chruch and city walls on an uneven ground. This lead to constructual problems that have been bugged the building for ages. And then in the sixthees a desasterous decision to remove internal buttresses.
in english a very good guide through the building, from underground to the tower with views over the country side. You have to make a reservation through Internet or in person.
In the end they show the true colours of the building, from now to the 16th century
Closed between 1400 and 16.30m
Worth the trip"

"The building was closed for renovation when we visited. Beautiful architecture in a very friendly town."

"The only language available for the guided tour when I went was Spanish, but they provided audioguides in English (and French and German, if I remember correctly). The tour guide was very friendly and always made sure to give some explanation in English for me. He also answered any questions I had. The church itself is really interesting, and I recommend going up the tower especially around sundown. Better to reserve a slot for the tour in advance; mine was full on a Tuesday."
