What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kabalana Beach 'The Rock' is a celebrated surf spot with stunning sunset views and a lively beachfront dining scene. While many praise the location and friendly staff, some visitors report long waits and high prices for food, with mixed opinions on quality. It's a must-visit for surfers, but dining expectations should be managed.
"Went for Dutch rice + chicken burger. Included picture of ‘chicken’ burger below, 5 pieces of calamari + bland rice and some pieces of pineapple was 3300 rupees (around 11 dollars). Customers next to us ordered chicken wings and left them all uneaten. I don’t leave reviews, this was honestly so poor that we felt we had to. Location is good, worst food so far in Sri Lanka after 2 weeks. Shockingly bad."

"Avoid it even if you are on your last breath
Absolutely atrocious, uncomfortable seating outdoors on metal lawn chairs with no cushions in direct sunlight , cold food served after an entire literal hour of waiting , cold rubbery burgers and a cheese sandwich took an hour . They literally kept the burger sitting on the serving rack while the chef was no where to be found the excuse the fries aren’t ready . The waiter had to go in the kitchen to help the “chef”
Ruined an absolutely lovely afternoon"

"Rock Beach Kabalana became a refuge for us. We walked in hot and hungry and we were greeted with a welcoming smile from the owner. We relaxed for a while with cold fruit juices and then comfortably enjoyed some delicious food - curry, kottu, and fruit. The food and atmosphere were amazing, so we went back the next night for more.
Both times we were there, we really enjoyed talking with the owner. He was kind and friendly, which made this place all the better. He even gave us advice regarding our travel arrangements and shared about Sri Lankan cuisine. We were very grateful for this fine establishment."
