What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Dedduwa Lake for its serene beauty, abundant birdlife, and stunning sunset views, making it a photographer's and nature lover's paradise. The tranquil boat rides through mangrove forests are a particular highlight. However, some caution is advised due to the presence of crocodiles, and dining options directly at the lake are limited.
"Even though this mass of water is known as Dedduwa Lake it's part of the lagoon associated with/estuary of Bentara River that starts 78km away in the hills of Hiniduma. Naturally, it has brackish water and is home to a few Crocs including a 6 meter-long monster. The"lake" comes to life in the morning and evening when Fishermen are out. Jetskis break the silence from time to time. Yathra Houseboat managed by the famous local hotel chain Jetwing is berthed here. The lake and it's surroundings are a haven for bird watchers and photographers. The banks really become alive in the morning and evening with numerous species of birds looking for food. You will hear nothing but bird calls during these times. There's a gravel road by the side of the lake that allows only pedestrians that is almost 7-8km long. It's a pleasurable walk in the early morning or evening to walk up and down this path that gives good photography opportunities especially for birders. The adjoining canal teems with Dragon Flies. You can take a boat ride in the morning or evening that will allow you to creep inside the Mangrove Forest and take some memorable pictures."
